Drayton Valley has a relatively young, yet fascinating history. As with many areas in western Canada, the local economy began with the fir trade, progressing to lumber and mixed farming. Then, in 1953, oil was discovered and has since become the primary economic base of the community. The Pembina Oilfield is Canada's largest and most prolific oilfield, encompassing more than 900 square miles. The town grew from approximately 75 persons in 1953 to 2,000 in just one year!
Drayton Valley has many parks and walking & bike paths, so make sure you enjoy them when you're in town for any of the special events we have. We also encourage you to take in places of interest like the Drayton Valley & District Historical Society Museum located in West Valley Lion's Park, or visit the Farmer's Market at the Derrick Mall on 50th street on Wednesdays. Like art? The Hamdon Gallery is home to a continually changing display of works by various artists and in various mediums. The Valley Gallery features the talents of local artists. The area around Drayton Valley is perfect for camping and fishing adventures along the Brazeau Dam, the North Saskatchewan River, Pembina River or the Brazeau Rivers. The Brazeau Reservoir is a favourite spot for RV campers and fishermen both.
If you're visiting our community in the winter, load the snowmobile and have a blast on our trails, enjoy the slopes at the ski hill, and don't forget to bring your snowboard! Oh yeah ... make sure you take in a Drayton Valley Thunder hockey game! Perhaps you're in town for a concert at The Max Centre. The Chamber invites you to take some time shopping in Drayton Valley as well. There's some unique shops both downtown and in our malls, so make sure you check things out when you're in town. If you're looking for something special, please use our handy Business Directory Search.

Consider volunteering with the Chamber of Commerce. The best way to maintain the quality of work done by the Chamber committees, and to achieve the goals and objectives of the Chamber is to supplement our limited staff with an enthusiastic force of volunteers. If you would like to volunteer your time with the town's business organization, the Chamber of Commerce, please call the office at 780.542.7578. ![]()
